The Attraction of Onlookers by Shimon Attie

Internationally acclaimed installation artist/photographer Shimon Attie was approached to create an artwork commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster. His artistic work is built around memory, place, and in particular working with communities and their collective memories. Having spent time in the village with survivors and bereaved parents, Shimon Attie has created artwork that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people of Aberfan. His work does not focus solely upon the tragedy of the past but looks towards the future. The book also features poetry from Gwyneth Lewis and Christopher Meredith and a foreword by John Humphrys.

Also includes free DVD featuring exclusive extract of the exhibition installation and a copy of the BBC documentary An American in Aberfan

Born in 1957 in Los Angeles, Shimon Attie is an internationally renowned installation artist and photographer. His work is in many prestigious collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the Berlin Museum in Berlin, and the Jewish Museum in New York.
